Mistakes I avoided while adding acids to skincare routine
Over the past few years, the trend of adding acids and actives to the skincare routine has seen a big boom. Scroll through your social media feeds and you will see every influencer adding some acid to their beauty routine. After all, these small magic potions give the much-needed boost of goodness to the skin.
We all have skin issues and all these actives and acids focus on such skin-related issues and help us achieve flawless and radiant skin. Personally, I have been using different acids in my skincare routine for months now and I have noticed a visible improvement.
While these bottles and tubes of acids and actives might fancy you, you need to be very careful before using them. It is because even a small mistake can have a negative effect on your skin.
When I first started using acids as a part of my skincare routine, I made sure to avoid five mistakes and you should do the same. Read on what these mistakes were below:
Not understanding the needs of my skin
Not researching well
Applying too much product
Not doing a patch test
Rushing with the process
Not understanding the needs of my skin: From dark spots to acne marks, our skin has different problems. Even the texture of our skin can be different from others, so it becomes very important to have detailed knowledge about this. If you are unable to figure out the requirements of your skin, then you can also take a professional’s help.
Not researching well: If you don’t have a science background, then you might not know much about these acids and actives. Randomly adding acids to your routine without knowing what they are for you is a big mistake and you should surely avoid it. Opt for the products that you need and not the ones that are popular.
Applying too much product: Thinking that if you apply a lot of product, it will show the result quicker is a mistake. Instead, you should be working on the method of applying it. Massage the product into your skin and make sure to layer it with a moisturiser.
Not doing a patch test: It is extremely important that you do a patch test before trying any product on your face. Any product can lead to an allergic reaction and cause damage to your skin. Never skip a patch test.
Rushing with the process: When you start using acids and actives, it becomes very important that your skin adapts to the product. Slowly introduce the acid into your skincare routine by using it once a week and gradually take it to every alternate day.
Having proper knowledge about the acid that you are using is very important. These are just five mistakes that I avoided and there can be more for you. Just because something is in trend, doesn’t mean it is for you. One always needs to be extra careful when it’s about the skin.
