When you’re the star of hit movies like Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s no surprise that the world thinks you’re a major freakin’ deal. Actress Zoe Saldana, 42, takes it all in stride though, and in addition to all her wins on the big screen, Zoe is well-known for her (basically perfect) skin, too.
How exactly does the actress get such glowing, silky-looking skin anyway? It turns out she hasn’t exactly been keeping her beauty rituals a secret. “I’m actually one of those people that really enjoys taking care of their skin,” Zoe said in an interview with Allure. “I don’t see it as work, but really just as part of life, just like brushing your teeth.” Noted!
From using actual coconuts on her skin, loving all-natural products, cleansing her face daily, indulging in all the lip care, and more, you’re going to want to learn all about Zoe’s skincare routine ASAP. And a quick PSA for your bank account: The products she uses are actually affordable, too.
Keep reading for the top five skincare secrets that the actress has shared over the years. You may want to steal some of her techniques for yourself (You’re welcome).
Coconuts are key.
ICYMI, Saldana grew up splitting her childhood between New York City and the Dominican Republic. And yes, a dual-location upbringing played a role in the way she views her beauty and skincare routine.
“If you live in the islands, you get a coconut, and you use every part of that coconut,” the actress told Byrdie. “You drink the water, you make food with the meat, you can squeeze it and make coconut milk, and that milk you can put on your skin, on your hair. And then you can make coconut oil and coconut butter. I grew up using the environment to its full potential,” she said. We love to see it.
So if you’re in to the DIY beauty lifestyle, consider incorporating coconuts into your routine, too. (And if you’re not, store-bought coconut oil and milk works too).
Face washing is a top priority.
Yep, she is a big fan of the basics—which is why she’s veeery into washing her face. “I think washing your face twice a day at least is the most important thing to do, especially when you live in a city, because there’s so much pollution,” she told Allure. “I’ve always used Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer. My skin’s not very sensitive, but because I travel so much, it sometimes reacts to the change in environments.” The best part of this info? Zoe’s face wash fav is super cheap and drugstore accessible.
Her go-to beauty tool is very low key.
While they’re very much a ~trend~ right now, Saldana doesn’t spend her time or money on high-tech beauty tools. Instead, she opts for simpler methods. Her go-to? A plain washcloth or small towel, the actress said. “I buy them in bulk every time I go to Costco,” Zoe explained and, yes, you can get your hands on some, too. (For cheap!)
She’s into ‘all-natural’ skin and haircare.
BTW, the Avatar star says that her time in New York City helped her learn how to create DIY products and food-based wellness treatments. “I was always taught to take pride in the way that I clean and maintain myself,” Zoe said about her NYC life in an interview with Stylecaster. “I think using a lot of home remedies and natural products like olive oil and things that are super pure like shea butter are things I learned growing up as a New Yorker.” So yeah, Zoe doesn’t stray away from the basics that have proven benefits, even thought she could get her hands on just about any product.
Lip balm is multi-use for Zoe.
Hopefully you know by now that lip balm has *multiple* uses, all of which Zoe takes advantage of on the reg, she said in an interview with PureWow. Her favorite? Homeoplasmine ointment, which she’ll not only put on her lips, but will also dab on her eyelids and cheeks. Basically, this all-purpose cream is the perfect way for her to highlight her features even if she doesn’t feel like wearing a full face of makeup. And yes, you can snag one of these cult-fav, long-lasting lip balms for just under 16 dollars.
Okay, now that you’re a Zoe Saldana skincare secrets pro, it’s time to incorporate some of her tried-and-true tips into your own routine. Fingers crossed that your skin comes out looking like Zoe’s glowing, supple complexion. Rooting for you.
