Shraddha Kapoor’s real-girl approach to beauty is refreshing—the actor is a major fan of keeping it simple, using DIY ingredients to make hair packs and relying on classic makeup products to create a polished end result. “Keep it real, comfortable and be true to yourself… the glow will inevitably follow,” she shared, which depicts it perfectly. Here are 10 skincare and wellness tips we learn from her Instagrams.
1) A home-made hair mask works just as well as an off-the-shelf product
While there’s always a place for a great shampoo and conditioner, a DIY hair mask can really strengthen, hydrate and add shine to strands. Everyone has their own must-have, and Kapoor’s favourite is: a “hair pack made of aloe vera, hibiscus leaves or flowers and yoghurt.” Aloe vera contains Vitamins A, C, and E, which contribute to cell turnover, promoting healthy cell growth. Hibiscus is rich in Vitamin C and amino acids, plus it improves the blood circulation under the scalp to stimulate healthy hair growth. Yoghurt has lactic acid that cleanses the scalp, and clears away all dead cells. “The cooling and nourishing pack leaves your hair soft, smooth and shiny,” she claims.
2) Prepping your hair is important
If you’re going to use hot tools or styling products, adding moisture and nourishment right back to it is important to reduce breakage. Kapoor follows a very popular technique: Oiling. Applying warm oil to hair ensures that it penetrates inside, and the massaging motion helps to improve blood circulation to the scalp. “Oiling is an important part of my hair care routine given the amount of styling products I need to use when shooting. I find it keeps my hair healthy and shining,” she confirmed in an interview.
3) If you have sensitive skin, treat it carefully
While the internet is flooding with fancy multiple-step routines that promise to leave your skin glowing, if you have sensitive skin like Kapoor, it is best to leave it be. “I have very moody skin,” she confirmed. “Every day I wash my face on average twice and moisturise it as per the weather conditions.” But the most important lesson? Learning to keep her hands off. “Its very difficult to just leave your face alone but I think thats the best thing you can do. Constantly make it go through face masks, scrubs etc can irritate it more than help it.”
4) Don’t underestimate the power of concealer
Kapoor always counts concealer as her favourite makeup product, chalking it up to be her vanity kit must-have. “Concealer is your best bet if you want your makeup to look flawless,” she shared. The actor always uses a second-skin concealer and blends in into her under-eyes and on any areas she wants illuminated. “I love when the skin looks flawless, especially when it doesn’t come with added heaviness and the feeling of being made-up,” she said.
5) A natural makeup look can make a statement too
You won’t see Kapoor with a heavy contour. The actor eschews bronzer and highlighter for a little blush on the cheeks and nothing else. She explained her opinion of the makeup trend in a magazine article: “Contouring, I feel it is really over-hyped. I mean you can simply adore your face cuts without changing your nose or cheekbones according to the beauty standards set by no individual but the industry at large.”
6) A bold lipstick shade is a must-have
If you find a red lipstick that works for you, keep it close. Kapoor knows the power of a bold lip, saying that it “instantly lights up the face with minimal effort”. When she goes bright on one feature, the actor likes to balance it on with nude and natural tones. “I love using natural shades, like peach, that accentuate facial features to impart a natural glow,” she professes.
7) Try a dramatic eye makeup look
Still, that isn’t to say Kapoor doesn’t like enhancing her favourite features with makeup. Her favourite pick? Using kohl on her upper and lower lash lines. “Add drama to the eyes. It always works,” she shared. Kapoor eyes can be classified as upturned, and her makeup artist, Shraddha Naik, shared the perfect trick for this type of lid: “The key here is to keep the lower lashline as intense as the upper lid to balance the look.”
8) If you’re experimenting with your hair, go all out
When Kapoor is on the red carpet, her strands are usually left down in waves, or twisted into polished ponytails. But when she’s off-duty, she knows to not fight the texture. “When my hair is behaving badly, I’ve learnt to make some quick messy buns that look pretty good actually,” she shared. But when she’s really in the mood to switch it up, she’s tried pink extensions that she wove into braids, or an orange wig she wore to a friend’s birthday a few years ago. “I love funky hair colours, they’re so much fun.”
9) If you find a workout routine you love, schedule it in
Kapoor has always loved dancing, and now she counts it as her favourite stress-busting workout routine too. “There’s nothing quite like dance—it’s fun and helps me stay fit,” she shared. In her caption, she also shared that it keeps her happy too. “No matter the amount of mistakes or the difficult in steps, dancing makes me so happy.” It is a form of aerobic fitness and boosts muscle strength too.
10) Find a way to workout, wherever you are
Even through the pandemic-induced lockdown, Kapoor kept her exercise routine strong, either attending virtual workouts with her trainers or doing an at-home circuit by herself on her terrace. “Our video call workouts have been beyond amazing,” she shared, giving fans a glimpse of her strength and conditioning focused sequence.
