After giving fans a peek into her skin care secrets via Allure earlier this year, YouTuber Emma Chamberlain is sharing her updated skin care routine and, this time, she’s running her product selection by Hyram.
In her new video, Emma and Hyram go through her entire skincare routine from their respective homes. Emma begins the video by telling Hyram she used to use only products he hates, but her new routine may be more Hyram-approved.
She starts her routine with “face-washing,” saying that if she’s out and about, she’ll use Simple Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes, which makes Hyram cringe, but Emma promises it’s only for emergencies. “Those are gentle… you’re doing the best you can, I guess,” Hyram says. Her next product is PURITO From Green Cleansing Oil, one of Hyram’s underrated faves. “I went on Accutane for seven months, so this helped with everything,” Emma says of the cleanser, which she follows with another Hyram fave, Youth To The People Kale Superfood Cleanser. (She alternates with a fave she’s talked about before, CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, which she uses in the shower.)
Her cleansing routine got two thumbs up from Hyram. “Your approach to it is really good,” Hyram says. “People over-cleanse their skin a lot… over-cleansing your skin can really strip it and cause even more problems.” He does, however, tell Emma she should be cleansing a bit longer than 10 seconds; 30 seconds is the Hyram-approved sweet spot.
The two move on to serums, with Hyram saying he loves Emma’s pick of Bliss Clear Genius Clarifying Overnight Liquid Peel. He also approves of her choice of The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, asking if it helps with her redness. Emma is apparently a big fan of serums (she uses four more that you can check out below) and for the most part, her choices are OK by Hyram. (Emma shares that she “stalked” Hyram’s faves and bought a ton on Amazon.) “I’m scared that you have nothing bad to say yet,” she says. “I think we’re just waiting for something really bad… I will just flop over and die,” Hyram jokes.
The product in question is Tatcha Water Cream, which Emma uses because she likes how it smells and how it applies over the rest of her skincare. Hyram is skeptical about the product line in general. “If you were going to go with a fragranced product, Tatcha products are so high-quality and the ingredients are so good that I’ll let it slide,” he says. He’s also ambivalent about the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask, but tells Emma it’s OK to keep using it if she likes it. (Emma has previously said she used Aquaphor on her lips while dealing with Accutane dryness.)
At one point, Hyram calls Emma “bougie” due to her expensive face mask from Barbara Sturm. “I know so many face masks that are so affordable … that will essentially do the same thing,” Hyram says of Emma’s splurge. “I would not encourage you to repurchase that.” Hyram suggests using Nizoral’s Anti Dandruff Shampoo as a face mask to treat fungal acne instead. Also in the acne realm, Emma says she uses Hero Cosmetics’ Mighty Patches as a spot solution, which Hyram approves.
Thankfully, Emma’s skincare routine passes the Hyram test — minus sunscreen. “Please don’t make me reverse everything I said!” he pleads. Emma has a few questions about sunscreen and promises she’ll start using it – it meaning his favorite: PURITO’s Centella Green Level Unscented Sun – in the future. Success!
