Eyes have been on Vanessa Hudgens ever since she graced us with her presence as Gabriella Montez in Disney Channel’s High School Musical over ten years ago. While she’s gone on to do many more things since then—including two studio albums and making her Broadway debut in Gigi—she has most recently come back in the spotlight for her role(s) in the upcoming The Princess Switch: Switched Again, in which the actress plays three different roles.

Yep, you could say Vanessa has done a lot of growing up since her “high school” days but one thing that’s remained the same is her flawless complexion. She may only be 31, but she works hard to keep her skin looking its best. That hasn’t always been the case, however. In fact, in 2019 she told Shape that it took turning 30 to make her want to invest her time and money in her skin. “I’ve realized that I don’t have the skin that I had when I was 18,” she says. “I love the natural route. She’s pro sunscreen.

Vanessa shared with The Cut in 2017 that she is a believer in sunscreen. “I always try to wear sunscreen, especially on my face, just because I think that when we’re young and we’re carefree about it and we don’t really think twice about the fact that the sun can be damaging to our skin,” said Vanessa. “I don’t want wrinkles, so every time I go into the sun, I try to wear a lot of sunscreen.”

She cleanses her skin three times to get all her makeup off.

In a video interview with Yahoo Life, the actress shared exactly what she does every night saying that her skincare routine has grown significantly since turning 30 in 2018. First up is a good cleanse. “I wash twice after using a wipe. Because after a long day of filming, the amount of makeup that is on my face is somewhat disgusting. So I try to get all of it off,” said Vanessa.

She swears by an extensive skincare regimen with plenty of tools.

In that same interview, the star went on to share every step involved after the previously mentioned triple cleanse. “And then I steam, I put my serums on, and then I use my high frequency machine, some days I use my Nuface, and I use my LightStem Light, and moisturize, and eye cream, yeah, good to go,” said Vanessa. “I feel lucky that I can buy these amazing products and things that actually work and give myself the time to use them.”

She believes her skincare time is self-care time.

Yes, using this extensive regimen means Vanessa is spending more time at her vanity, but she views it as an investment in herself. “It’s really nice to give yourself that time because life can get hectic and when you know you have time set aside for yourself, I think it’s a really important thing,” Vanessa told Shape. “Having those 15 minutes in the morning and at night, I feel, is an act of self-love.” She reiterated this thought in her interview with Yahoo Life as well saying, “For me it’s a form of self-love and meditation. and having that regimen in my life creates a source of stability.”

She prioritizes her mental health as well.

When asked by The Cut for her best wellness advice she started by saying drinking a lot of water but then got more serious about taking care of your mind. “I think a lot of people get really stuck on trying to fix their bodies to be a certain way, but if your mental health isn’t at a place where you can love yourself, the whole thing’s pointless.”
